THE KANPUR police are conducting raids to trace a 33-year-old woman wanted in connection with the killing of eight policemen, who were attacked and murdered when they had gone to arrest gangster Vikas Dubey in Bikru village on the night of July 3, 2020. Among the deceased was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devendra Mishra.

The Kanpur police are likely to file a chargesheet against Manu Pandey, mother of two minor children, next week.

She is the only accused still wanted in the Bikru killings case, said an officer.

As Manu Pandey alias Varsha remained untraceable, the police moved court and, following its directive, attached her property.

The alleged role of Manu Pandey came to light after a few audio recordings surfaced online in which she is purportedly heard disclosing the location of the police team to the accused, sources said.

She was also allegedly heard passing on instructions from Vikas Dubey to his associates. Manu Pandey’s residence is located opposite Vikas Dubey’s house in Bikru village.

Manu’s father-in-law, Prem Prakash Pandey, who was accused in the same case, was gunned down by police in an encounter on the same night. Prem Prakash was Vikas Dubey’s maternal uncle.

Manu’s husband, Shashi Kant, who is also an accused in the case, is lodged in jail.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kanpur, Vijay Dhull, said they are working to trace Manu Pandey.

The case dates back to July 3, 2020, when a police team was attacked near Vikas Dubey’s residence in Bikru village. The police had gone to arrest Vikas Dubey in connection with an attempt to murder case. When the team reached near Dubey’s house, assailants fired on them from rooftops, killing eight policemen.

Of the 21 persons named in the FIR, the police gunned down six accused, including Vikas Dubey, in alleged encounters over the following weeks.
