Heavy downpours in Lagos State stopped many workers from getting to work on time on Wednesday morning.
And that is for the residents who braved the roads at all. Most parts of Lekki on the Lagos island were flooded, with people sharing pictures and videos on social media. Some persons, stuck at home, shared photos of their flooded residential estates.
Some parts of Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja, and Gbagada on the mainland were flooded. The floods were not restricted to the island and mainland but disrupted movement on the Third Mainland Bridge, the major bridge connecting both parts of Lagos.

When it rains heavily in Lagos, not only are people unable to drive their vehicles to their destinations, but there is also usually a hike in fares.

Many Lagosians, unable to make it to work, started posting with the endearment, “Dear HR” and hashtag #DearHR, leaving many human resource persons with no choice but to allow their staff to work from home.
Many X users have been making jokes about their plight and pleading with their HR departments to be absent from work due to the floods.
After going through all these rain flood stress(especially in Gbagada), only to get to work and discovered our Dear HR has already said we should work from home today..

As I left the house I couldn’t believe the amount of flood that surrounded the area, I struggled to swim and finally hopped into a vehicle only to get stuck in the middle of the flood! As I type this message I think the water is taking me back home. 😢

The rainy season is only just starting, as the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has predicted three days of thunderstorms and rains from Wednesday (today).
