The Edo State Government, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, has issued a stern warning against unauthorized gatherings by cult groups throughout the state under the pretext of celebrating an anniversary on July 7th. According to a statement released on Saturday by Hon. Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, the government has placed the police and other security agencies on high alert to apprehend and prosecute any groups that defy the state’s anti-cultism legislation………. “In an effort to combat cultism in Edo State, the government has advised young people to refrain from participating in any unlawful gatherings on July 7, 2024, disguised as celebrations for any cult group,” Nehikhare stated.

“The state has received credible information from security agencies that Aiye (Black Axe) intends to mark its anniversary on July 7, 2024, potentially leading to conflicts and attacks on other cult groups before, during, and after the event,” he continued.

Nehikhare emphasized that the state’s anti-cultism laws prohibit such activities, urging cult groups and their members to comply. He also called on parents and guardians to caution their children against attending any cult gatherings. The commissioner assured the public of heightened security measures, with security agencies deployed to safeguard lives and property across the state.
