The Ekiti State Police Command has brought charges against six individuals in the Ado Ekiti Magisterial District for alleged theft, with two separate cases involving significant amounts.

Three of the defendants – Abdullah Usman (22), Abdullah Azeez (25), and Alex Sunday (32) – were presented before Magistrate Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N1m in Ikole Ekiti.

Inspector Raymond Osas, the police prosecutor, stated that the trio conspired on June 5 in Ikole-Ekiti to steal a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to Saliu Mohammed. They were charged under Sections 421 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

In a separate case related to the theft of a N250,000 phone in Ado Ekiti, the defendants Adesigbin Love (13), Adesigbin Heritage (16), and Agboola Miracle (19) were accused of felony to wit shop breaking and stealing.

Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi detailed that Adesigbin Love broke into the shop of Rabiu Kudirat on February 5, 2024, stealing a Samsung Galaxy AO4S phone valued at N250,000 and N110,000 cash. Adesigbin Heritage subsequently received the stolen phone from Adesigbin Love, while Agboola Miracle received it from Adesigbin Heritage on March 10.

The charges against them include violations under Sections 421, 324(1) and (2), 302(1)(a), 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

During the arraignment, the defendants’ counsels, J. S. Balogun and Gboyega Abiola, respectively, pleaded for bail, assuring the court of their clients’ availability and offering credible sureties.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Owoleso granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties for the motorcycle theft case and N100,000 with one surety for the phone theft case. The cases were adjourned to July 24 and August 5 for hearings, respectively.
