Army, Hunters Foil Attempted Vandalism By Suspected Boko Haram Members In Yobe

A joint Army and local hunters operation has reportedly foiled an attempt by suspected Boko Haram insurgents to again blow off electricity poles of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) near Kasaisa, a community located 10 kilometers away from Damaturu the Yobe State capital.

Sources told Newsmen that the terrorists travelling in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number BWR-572 FP Abuja were thwarted based on intelligence information received by security.

One of the hunters who spoke anonymously said, “The suspected vandals were blocked from several routes and Allah gave us victory. They fled, abandoning their vehicles after being confronted by the joint operation. A vehicle, Toyota Corolla was seized but the suspected terrorists fled,” he said.

Another source revealed that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other components were also recovered from the vehicle meant to vandalize the electricity poles.

The Sector 2, Joint Task Force of Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu has yet to comment on the Saturday incident.

The vandals, from December 2023 to March 2024, have destroyed over eight electricity poles belonging to TCN in Borno and Yobe states, causing hardship for the residents.
