Musa Ashoms, Plateau State Commissioner of information has announced the seizure of goods from defaulters who failed to comply with Executive Order 003 signed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang which took effect from 10th June, 2024.

Recall that the Executive Order 003 issued by Governor Caleb Mutfwang was meant to prohibit indiscriminate display of goods and wares in key business areas of Jos metropolis, thereby, entrenching public order and safety in the State.

While briefing journalists on Monday at the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) headquarters, Ashoms explained that the seized goods would be donated to Nigerian Correctional Centres and Internally-Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. He however warned that those who think they are above the law will face consequences.

The seized goods were basically toiletries, clothes, slippers and shoes of all kinds among other things, were items from Jos Main Market and other spots, that were displayed at the JMDB headquarters during the briefing.

He emphasised the state government’s commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining public order.

“In fulfillment of executive order 003 signed by His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, you recall that it has taken effect. The order is supposed to take effect from 10th June and today is the 24th June, 2024, those that didn’t follow the law and order, you recall that we went to the Jos main market and other spots to seize their goods. The order clearly stipulate that if you do not follow the order, your goods will be seized and they will be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Center or internally displaced persons camps.

“Basically, it is in fulfillment of that that we are here. We are taking these goods that you are seeing to the Correctional Service, those that are for the adults basically are going to end up at the Nigerian Correctional Centers. And those that are for the kids and young people, we are taking them to the IDP camps today.

“We want to use this moment to sound a warning to those who think they are above the law that if they are willing to donate their goods, we are willing to take it to the IDP camps and to the correctional centres. So basically that is why we are here this morning at the Jos Metropolitan Development Board”.

The Information Commissioner reiterated that the State Government would not tolerate disobedience to the law, adding that the seized goods would be distributed to those in need, sending a strong message to defaulters.
