Professor Samuel Adu Gyamfi, a political historian from the Political Science Department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s chosen running mate, refrains from delivering unscripted public speeches.

According to Prof. Adu Gyamfi, this advice is based on NAPO’s strong personality, which could potentially dominate public appearances.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Prof. Adu Gyamfi emphasized that although Dr. Opoku Prempeh brings considerable experience to Vice President Bawumia’s campaign, it is essential for the party, particularly his handlers, to ensure that he does not speak spontaneously without prior preparation or planning.

“I believe that in public engagements, especially when delivering speeches or on campaign platforms, it would be prudent for him not to speak extemporaneously. Furthermore, I urge that he avoids speaking off the cuff,” Prof. Adu Gyamfi advised.

“I suggest that his political handlers, marketers, and speechwriting experts should prepare him with a moderated tone, given his strong personality and charisma. This will enable him to effectively convey the party’s message in a manner that is polite, respectful, and resonates broadly with the electorate,” he added.

On Thursday, July 4, the National Executive Council of the NPP unanimously endorsed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as Vice President Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 general elections scheduled for December.
