Zamfara lawmaker weds 105 girls

The federal lawmaker representing Bungudu and Maru Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Zamfara state Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu has sponsored mass wedding of 105 girls orphaned by banditry in his constituency.

Speaking during the ceremony held in Bungudu town, the headquarters of Bungudu LGA, Saturday, Hon. Zubairu stated that the aim of the programme is to enable the young girls get married with ease.

According to him, items given to the newly wedded girls include beds, complete sitters, clothes and kitchen utensils.

“The girls orphaned by banditry have lost their parents to bandits attacks and we carefully screened them for the mass wedding and God willing, I shall sustain the programme in my constituency,” Hon Zubairu said.

He further hinted that each bride will be giving fifty thousand Naira while each bridegroom will be giving the sum of one hundred thousand Naira for them to start small business to cater for themselves.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Sen. Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, Senator representing Kano South senatorial district commended Hon. Zubairu for his concern to his constituents.

Sen. Kawu urged the newly wedded couples to be patient with each other and endure their matrimonial challenges for them to have a better family.

“The issue of marriage needs endurance, dedication, respect and understanding between the couple, so I urge you to adhere with the support given to you by your lawmaker to ensure sustainability of your marriage,” Senator Kawu said.
