Bon Jovi Makes It To A Huge Milestone For The Very First Time

Forbes 2 days ago

Bon Jovi has spent much of 2024 promoting their most recent album, Forever. The set arrived just a few weeks ago, and it didn’t chart for very long, despite a lofty starting point. While the focus lately has been on that exciting new drop, fans of the band have been returning to one of their compilations, and they’ve helped the title reach a very special milestone.

The rock group’s Greatest Hits: The Ultimate Collection is still living on the Billboard 200, as is usually the case. This frame, the set hits a figure that the band has never seen before in the decades they’ve been together on the list of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.

Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits has now lived on the Billboard 200 for 350 weeks. The compilation is the first release from the New Jersey hometown favorites to make it to that landmark.

In the past tracking frame, Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits moved more than 9,300 equivalent units. Fewer than 1,000 of those are actual sales, as streams of the many smashes featured on the project’s tracklist are keeping the title afloat.

This week, Greatest Hits slips on the Billboard 200. The title falls from No. 135 to No. 151 on the 200-spot tally. The compilation has previously climbed as high as No. 5, a position it reached in November 2010.

Greatest Hits is one of three projects by Bon Jovi that have managed to rack up triple-digit weeks on the Billboard 200. Their breakout commercial win Slippery When Wet stands as their second-longest-charting, as it spent 118 turns on the list. 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit, their sophomore release, held on for two years, or exactly 104 stints.

Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits does sell several hundred copies every week, but those purchases aren’t largely responsible for the title’s continued success. According to Billboard rules, when fans stream a song from a group–such as the biggest singles from these rockers–that activity fuels only one album on the Billboard 200. If the full-length they were originally featured on is the better-performing of the efforts that song can be found on, that title soars. If a compilation including that tune–and others–is doing better, that’s the project that charts.
