BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of a man on drug charges Wednesday.

The office said John T. Wilson, 51, of Binghamton, will serve eight years in prison for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. Wilson pleaded guilty to the crime as the first witness was called to the stand during the trial. He was convicted as a second felony offender.

On Jan 26, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at the storefront of 42 Clinton St. in Binghamton. An investigation found Wilson had cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale and packaging material.

Inside the premises, officers found more than an ounce of fentanyl and more than an eighth of an ounce of cocaine as well as another digital scale.

Wilson admitted to possessing these substances with the intent to sell.

“The Broome County District Attorney’s Office is committed to prosecuting individuals who profit from the illegal drug trade, ensuring that those who distribute illicit substances in our community face the full consequences of the law,” said District Attorney Paul Battisti in a news release. “This eight-year prison sentence sends a clear message that accountability will be enforced.”

Wilson was also sentenced to three years of post-release supervision.
