Rancho Palos Verdes has a new deputy city manager.

Catherine Jun will leave Huntington Beach, where she has served as deputy city manager since 2023, to take on the same role at Rancho Palos Verdes, the Peninsula town announced this week. Her first official day at the city will be Monday, July 8.

“As Deputy City Manager,” Jun said in a statement, “I look forward to collaborating with staff to continually serve our City Council and community stakeholders in ways that will enhance the quality of life of all residents and visitors, while also building upon our legacy of public service excellence.”

After receiving her master’s degree in public policy from USC and a bachelor’s degree in American literature and culture from UCLA, Jun began a journalism career at The Arizona Republic, according to the press release. She was a photographer covering the 2008 presidential campaign, sports and more.

Two years later, she became the policy analyst at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Jun became the management analyst for Bellflower in 2014 before moving over to Huntington Beach as the assistant to the city manager at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the RPV press release. During that time, the press release said, she led Huntington Beach’s “COVID-19 public communication program and community engagement strategies.”

“As deputy city manager,” the press release added, “she took on citywide projects involving complex matters such as homelessness, charter amendments, strategic planning, sustainability, and legislative funding requests.”

RPV City Manager Ara Mihranian said the Jun’s position is vital to the town’s operations.

“As soon as I met Catherine, I knew she was the right fit for RPV,” Mihranian said in a statement. “With her vast experience in city government and communications, along with her time in Huntington Beach, she brings a breadth of knowledge and skills that will only better the community and the organization.”

Jun’s salary was not disclosed. And city officials were not immediately available to provide that information on Friday, July 5.
