Summary

  • A new image for Agatha All Along reveals one unexpected WandaVision character as a member of Agatha Harkness' new coven of witches.
  • Sharon Davis being revealed to be a witch in Agatha All Along comes as a shock.
  • Several notable WandaVision moments are changed if Sharon Davis is a witch, as she may have been manipulating events herself.

One unassuming character from Phase 4's WandaVision may have been teased to be a witch in the MCU, thanks to a newly-released first-look image of Marvel Television's Agatha All Along. Following her debut in WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn was quickly confirmed to be returning to the MCU as original Salem witch Agatha Harkness. WandaVision's first spinoff, Agatha All Along, is expected to see Harkness building her own coven of witches in Westview, New Jersey, which will introduce several new powerful characters into the MCU's Phase 5.

Agatha All Along's exciting cast marks the MCU debuts of Patti LuPone, Joe Locke, and Aubrey Plaza, among others, while several characters from WandaVision will also be returning. While little is known about the actual storyline of Agatha All Along, the series will develop the MCU's more magical and mystical elements, which could include revealing some unexpected characters to be magically-inclined. Similarly to Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Agatha All Along may bring new magic-users into the MCU, and a new first-look image might have revealed who one of these could be.

Debra Jo Rupp’s MCU Character Seems To Have Been Confirmed As A Witch In New Agatha All Along Image

Sharon Davis was not introduced as a magic-user in WandaVision .

As part of a June 2024 article promoting the upcoming premiere of Agatha All Along in September, Empire Magazine released an exclusive preview image of the WandaVision spinoff. This image shows Kathryn Hahn's titular Agatha Harkness, seemingly broken free of the Scarlet Witch's spell, opening doors into some sort of basement, and surrounded by several new MCU characters. These include LuPone's Lilia Calderu, Zamata's Jennifer Kale, and Ahn's Alice. However, Harkness is also joined by Sharon Davis, with Debra Jo Rupp reprising her WandaVision role.

Accompanying the image, Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer revealed that Harkness would be joined by "a disparate, mixed bag of witches."This seems to imply that Jo Rupp's Sharon Davis, who was cursed to portray Mrs. Hart in Wanda Maximoff's Hex, has actually been a witch all this time. Sharon Davis was not introduced as a magic-user in WandaVision, so her seemingly being confirmed to be a witch in Agatha All Along is a very interesting development for her character, and this could change how viewers look back on WandaVision.

What they have in common is that they’re covenless witches. Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together? [Where] WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are. Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart.

Sharon Davis As A Witch Changes Key WandaVision Moments Significantly

Sitcom legend Debra Jo Rupp (Friends, That '70s Show) was only included as a supporting character in WandaVision, but was involved in some of the series' most pivotal moments. Revealing her to be a witch in Agatha All Along changes these moments significantly, as she must have been aware of the Scarlet Witch's actions in Westview, and perhaps had the power to confront her. Sharon Davis could be only the first WandaVision character revealed to be magically-inclined, as the Scarlet Witch and Vision may have chosen Westview, New Jersey, for a deeper reason.

Marvel Studios' First TV Show Is Now Secretly Getting 2 Second Seasons

WandaVision opened the MCU's Disney+ chapter, and years after the release of the first Marvel Studios show, it is getting two very different sequels.

WandaVision's weirdness began in the series' premiere episode, most notably during a scene which saw Fred Melamed's Mr. Hart choking during dinner with the Maximoffs, while Jo Rupp's Mrs. Hart simply pestered Wanda to "stop it." Mrs. Hart appears again during the women's gathering led by Emma Caulfield Ford's Dottie. It's possible that Sharon herself was manipulating these moments in WandaVision, making her "husband" choke, and showing Wanda the blood stain. After Harkness freed Westview's residents from the Scarlet Witch's spell in WandaVision's finale, Agatha All Along will see Sharon Davis stick around to join Harkness' powerful new coven.
