Cleveland, Ohio – The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority will close the Red Line W.117 – Madison Rapid Station at the corner of Madison Avenue and W. 117th St., bordering Lakewood, starting July 17, while it upgrades the station’s platform and track bridges.

The RTA did not give an expected date for when the station might reopen, noting in a news release Monday the closure will last “until further notice.” In the meantime, bus service from the station will continue.

The #25 bus provides east and west service, while the #78 provides north and south service from the station. Passengers can also use the #26/26A route on Detroit Avenue, about half a mile north of the station.

All other Red Line stations will remain in service. Riders can use rideRTA.com or call the RTA Community Connection Line at 216-621-9500 for help with travel planning during the closure.

The rehabilitation work aims to update the Madison Station’s platform and track bridges, which were constructed in 1953. RTA will be improving the collection and distribution of surface drainage and providing proper expansion and contraction of the platform and bridge, it said in the news release.

The project also includes patching city concrete curb walls and replacing city sidewalk handrails. The work is expected to extend the service life of the three bridges and adjoining platform, RTA said.
