Doctor Banned Indefinitely After Leaving Baby's Brain Damaged: Restorations Rejected Twice

apexlifehub.com 2 days ago

A former doctor, Dr Ahmed Loutfi, has been indefinitely banned from reapplying to be restored to the medical register after leaving a baby with a brain injury and a skull fracture during birth. This decision comes after his second restoration application was rejected by a tribunal. Misconduct Allegations: Dr Loutfi was initially struck off the medical register in 2016 following a fitness to practice hearing related to misconduct at various hospitals. One such incident involved him incorrectly diagnosing a mother with an ectopic pregnancy as a partial miscarriage and advising her to 'go home and try for another baby'. Serious Incidents: In May 2013 at Birmingham Women's Hospital, Dr Loutfi was found to have caused a brain injury and depressed skull fracture to a baby by 'inappropriately' rotating its head during childbirth. Furthermore, at Liverpool Women's Hospital in April 2010, he wrongly diagnosed a patient twice, resulting in a fallopian tube removal due to an ectopic pregnancy. Poor Decision-Making: In October 2011 at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester, Dr Loutfi ignored a foetal blood sample indicating severe distress, opting for vaginal delivery instead of immediate Caesarean section, leading to a ruptured uterus and emergency hysterectomy for the mother. Rejection of Restoration: Despite Dr Loutfi's attempts to be restored, a recent tribunal found him unfit to practice and has indefinitely suspended his right to reapply for restoration to the medical register. It is evident that his history of misconduct and poor decision-making has resulted in serious consequences for patients under his care.
