Seplat donates STEAM laboratories to schools in Edo

The NEPL/Seplat Energy JV on Thursday donated two more Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) laboratories to Edo Boys High School and New Era College, in  Benin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NEPL/Seplat had on April 14, 2023 donated similar  laboratory to Ihogbe college in Benin

In her  speech,  Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Seplat Energy, said   that Seplat was excited to collaborate with the state’s  Ministry of Education to provide quality education in the state

Afe was represented by Mrs Esther Icha, the Senior Manager, Corporate Social Investment and Performance, Seplat.

She noted that the STEAM Lab project was part of Seplat Innovators Programme (SIP), which complements the Seplat Teachers’ Empowerment Programme (STEP).

She explained that the programme was a follow-up on the progress of the trained teachers, to ensure that STEAM learning was passed on to the students, towards improved quality of education.

The director said that the STEAM laboratories were designed to foster the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative skills among students.

” It was also designed to prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century.

“The STEAM approach to learning is a holistic and interdisciplinary approach that encourages students to explore the connections between different subjects, igniting their curiosity and creativity, ” she said.

She expressed optimism that the laboratories would serve as hubs of learning, where students can engage in experiments and projects that would enhance their understanding of STEAM disciplines.

On her part, Joan Oviawe, the state’s  Commissioner for Education, said that Seplat Energy’s commitment to empowering the next generation was commendable.

Oviawe was represented by Ero Ugiagbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.

Oviawe said, “the three STEAM laboratories you have built and equipped are testament to your dedication to innovation and education.

” Your generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of countless students, providing them with the platform to exploit, learn and bloom.

“Your contribution to the development of STEAM education in our community is invaluable.”

She said Seplat’s investment” in our future is a beacon of hope and a reminder that collective effort can lead to remarkable achievement.”(NAN
