Remembering the Past: A grand parade featuring bands, car clubs, bike clubs, and civic groups will take center stage, with 50 to 100 units participating in this spectacular event. The festivities will culminate in a joyous celebration at the Truxtun School and Mount Carmel Church grounds, offering a delightful mix of food, games, a concert, and an awards ceremony that capture the essence of Truxtun's rich history and its profound impact on the Black community. Truxtun's Beginnings: Established during World War I, Truxtun was not just a housing development but a symbol of resilience and perseverance. Commissioned by Woodrow Wilson, Truxtun emerged as the first federal wartime housing project for African-American families in the nation, triumphing over the challenges and inequalities of its time.
