Iseyin Eid-el-Kabir Crisis: Asiwaju Adini Musulumi Condemns Harassment, Calls for Justice

The Asiwaju Adini Musulumi of Ibadan Land, Arc Hassan Olawale Giwa has called on the state government and the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State to intervention in the Iseyin Eid-el-Kabir crisis that led to the harassment of a cleric, Sulaiman AbdulAzeez, his wives and some others by a pastor identified as Apostle Sunday Ogundairo.

Apostle Sunday Ogundairo of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Imuse, Iseyin area of Oyo State was alleged of using soldiers to harass the cleric and leaving him with severe injuries in his head and body.

Also suffered in the attack, were the wives of the cleric, a heavily pregnant wife was reported to have been dehumanised, rough handled and dragged on the floor while the other wife’s head was smashed.

Asiwaju Adini Musulumi, in a statement, said that the call for the intervention of the state government and the Nigeria Police Force is to investigate the matter, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Arc Giwa maintained that this will prevent future occurrence of this ugly incident that is capable of truncating the existing peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among Muslim and Christian in Oyo State.

The foremost Islamic leader disclosed that the video of the ugly incident that is currently circulating on social media is a clear violation of fundamental human rights and the reaction or counter reaction may worsen the situation if urgent action is not taken by the relevant authorities.

“Oyo State is known to be a peaceful state especially when it comes to religious matters, we have a better understanding of the doctrine of religious tolerance and this has been so helpful despite differences in our political and social life.

“It is impossible not to see this kind of excessive behavior in some people like it was demonstrated by Apostle Sunday Ogundairo once in a while, it is a clear violation of fundamental human rights. However, it is the duty of those in the position of authority to call them to order because such action is capable of jeopardizing the existing peace, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the state.

“This is the reason I am calling on the state government and the Commissioner of Police to investigate the incident, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice to avoid future occurrence of this kind of ugly incident in the civilized society,” Asiwaju Adini Musulumi of Ibadan Land said.

It will be recalled that a cleric, identified as Sulaiman AdbulAzeez, his two wives and some others were attack and beaten up by soldiers alleged to be sponsored by a pastor of Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Imuse, Iseyin on 16th June, 2024, which happened to Eid-el-Kabir (Ileya) day.

The offence committed by the cleric, Sulaiman AbdulAzeez according to the pastor in the report was that the cleric was slaughtering his ram facing the Church.
