Scores of Mowe residents on Friday afternoon ignored the danger of explosion as they trooped out in large numbers to scoop the contents of a 33,000 litres fuel tanker that crashed in the area.

According to sources at the scene of the accident, the tanker lost control as it approaches the Car Park C gate of the Redeem Church entrance and crashed.

The tanker fell on its sides spilling its contents that attracted artisans and residents of the communities from far and near scrambling to scoop the inflammable contents of the ill-fated trailer.

Scores of residents were seen running from different sections of the communities as they dashed across the expressway carrying different sizes of kegs, plastic bowls, buckets and containers to scoop diesel.

They were also joined by motorcyclists and their accomplices who came from far and near to take part in the jamboree.

Those that succeeded in fulfilling their missions were completely soaked in diesel as they conveyed their loot on motorbikes, heads and shoulders smiling.

However, men of the state firefighters from a nearby Fire Station were observed spraying some contents believed to be extinguisher to avert possible fire outbreak.

Undeterred by the presence of policemen, residents of the area had a field day as men, women and children took turns to fill their containers.

Consequently, motorists travelling on the expressway were held for several hours as the residents occupied two lanes of the busy road.
As at press time, there were no casualties or outbreak of fire.
