As Ekwunife convenes the first South-East Leadership Summit

The South-East Governors Forum on Friday convened a crucial capacity building meeting of the zone whereby highly reputable resource persons interfaced with South-East Youths nominated by various organizations, on lectures covering leadership development and values reorientation.

His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State who was ably represented by His Excellency the Deputy Governor Barr Ifeanyi Ossai declared the event open with a very inspiring presentation.

The Deputy Governor who informed the youths that he went to the University specifically with the aim of learning how to think and become a better person enjoined the participants to take advantage of the leadership summit, by imbibing the lessons, citing the anticipated positive impacts of the resource materials, considering the capacity of the organizers and quality of the resource persons invited.

The host and Director General South-East Governors Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife CON in her remarks emphasized the importance of purpose discovery among young people, noting that unless the youths begin to see themselves as leaders wherever they are, the society will likely suffer the consequences on the long run.

In his remarks which obviously aligned with the purpose of the summit, the Nigerian Ambassador to Burundi Amb Elijah Onyeagba highlighted the need for Youths to be allocated 40% of Youth Commissioners in government, advocates appointment of Junior Commissioners for Youths and Sports Development at the state level.

Distinguished Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe while delivering the keynote address, hinted on certification for Youths that have completed the Igbo apprenticeship system (Igba boi) on various skill areas, including trading, so as to encourage young people who show commitment in the system, raise more employable youths and promote peaceful coexistence through proper engagement of the region’s teeming youth population.
