Malaysia's transport minister Anthony Loke has announced an update to the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system, streamlining renewals and deregistration for Singapore car owners driving into Malaysia. 

Effective from June 28, 2024, these enhancements include online renewals, automatic cancellations, and timely reminders, ensuring a seamless experience ahead of the VEP's Malaysia-Singapore border implementation on October 1, 2024.

How to renew or deregister your VEP online

Renewal process

1. Log In: Access the VEP online portal and log in using your credentials.
2. Submit Required Documents: Upload necessary documents, such as proof of vehicle insurance and roadworthiness certificates.
3. Payment: Complete the payment process using the available online payment options.
4. Confirmation: Receive a confirmation email once your renewal is processed.
5. Deregistration Process
6. Log In: Access the VEP online portal and log in using your credentials.
7. Submit Deregistration Request: Fill out the deregistration form and submit any required documents.
8. Verification: The system will verify the submitted information.
9. Confirmation: Receive a confirmation email once your deregistration is processed.

The OPS function will become available starting August 1, 2024. However, users can already download the MDGS application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to explore its features and customise it in advance.

Loke stated that following the VEP enforcement announcement, a total of 23,649 applications were received between May 28 and June 29, 2024. This number surpasses the 15,424 applications for the entirety of 2023. During this period, 6,120 VEP tags were issued to applicants, and 1,080 tags were activated.

The online system includes a dedicated support section to handle any queries or issues that users may encounter. Minister Loke emphasised that customer feedback is crucial for continuous improvement, encouraging users to share their experiences and suggestions.

The digitisation of the VEP renewal and deregistration processes marks a significant step forward in Malaysia's commitment to leveraging technology for improved public services. This move not only enhances convenience for foreign vehicle owners, but also aligns with the Government's broader goals of efficiency and digital transformation in public administration.
