Nico Williams has been tearing it up for Spain at EURO 2024. As one of Spain's best players, Nico Williams is a rapid forward who has garnered worldwide acclaim for his blistering performances out wide. Not only is he rapid with and without the ball but he has exceptional technical ability to provide the end product. Therefore, it is no surprise Arsenal want to sign him.

However, Mikel Arteta would have been the first to recognise that there will be plenty of competition to sign his countryman, especially after his incredible EURO 2024 display. In the Premier League alone, Arsenal will face competition from Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham. Outside of the Premier League, La Liga side Barcelona are also keen to keep Williams in Spain.

According to a new report from Sport, Nico Williams has made it his own priority to play for Barcelona next season. While he is flattered by interest elsewhere, if it were down to the player, he would be signing for Barcelona in a heartbeat.

The truth is, though, it is not entirely down to the player. Particularly considering Barcelona's poor financial situation, Nico Williams must open himself up to the idea of playing for another club. There is still hope for Barcelona, who could utilise the funds by selling Raphinha to buy Nico Williams but either way, Barcelona will need to make sacrifices to assure they are following financial rules.

Nico Williams can play across the front-line, with his primary position being as a left-winger. He is certainly strongest off the left, which makes this a confusing target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window. If Mikel Arteta is to strengthen his attack, he is far better off siging a striker or a backup right-winger to facilitate rest time for Bukayo Saka.

At left-wing, Arsenal already have two of the best options in the Premier League, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. The competition for places in this position is heated enough, let alone if they were to throw another spanner into the works by signing Nico Williams. Therefore, his preference for Barcelona could be a blessing in disguise from an Arsenal perspective.
