Blues Set £40 Million Price Tag Amid AC Milan Interest

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea youngster Carney Chukwuemeka has a £40 million release clause in his contract, but the club has no intention of selling him unless the clause is triggered.

Chukwuemeka, who struggled with injuries in his second season at Chelsea, has recently been linked to AC Milan. The Italian club is reportedly interested in a loan deal with an option to buy. Despite past successful dealings with Chelsea, Romano clarified that the Blues are not open to negotiations for the midfielder.

“We’ve had many rumors about Carney. What we can say is that there is a release clause in his contract. They signed the player from Aston Villa a year ago and the release clause is there. It is £40m,” Romano stated. “Chelsea are showing no intention to negotiate any other price for Carney. We know the market is always changing, but the position of Chelsea is very clear: they’ve got no intention of accepting loan proposals. When they’ve been approached by clubs, the answer has always been: no thanks. Chelsea want to continue with Carney. He’s happy at Chelsea and not planning anything else.”

Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for €18 million in 2022. Before his move, he was linked with Barcelona, but Chelsea secured his signature. Last season, injuries limited his appearances, and head coach Mauricio Pochettino favored Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer in the No. 10 position.

Chukwuemeka’s chances to break into the starting lineup took another hit recently, with Chelsea confirming the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City.
