The Tide News Online 2024/9/28

Rivers  State Government has said it would investigate the vandalisation of the Scrap to Wealth Plant at Kira in Tai Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Tambari Sydney Gbara, also warned  that those involved in the vandalisation of the Scrap to wealth plant would be investigated and made to answer for their action.
Gbara gave the assurance after a tour of some facilities owned by the ministry in Iriebe in Obio/ Akpor LGA and Kira in Tai Local Government Area.
According to The Tide’s source, the  facilities inspected by the Commissioner were the Waste to Wealth at Iriebe and Rumukrushi and Scrap to Wealth plant at Kira in Tai Local Government Area.
Gbara said the visit showed that the Governor is interested in reviving government ailing facilities in the Agricultural, Environment and other sectors with a view to economically empower the youth and boost the state economy.
The Commissioner, who decried the level of vandalisation of the Scrap to Wealth plant at Kira, said no one has the right to vandalise and cart away Government property sited in their localities.
He accused those charged with securing the property of having a hand in the wilful act of vandalisation and stealing of about 95 percent of vital parts of  the plant.
“Those who were in charge of that place must be questioned. They must have something to tell us on how substantial parts of the plant were vandalised, because it is not something somebody can just sneak in and sneak away. It took days for them to cut off those parts you saw”.
He advised the youths especially  those from Kira to shun vandalism, stealing and violence, but assist government in protecting facilities placed in their areas as such project would be beneficial to them.
“My message to the people of Kira is that they should wake up. We are no longer in the dark age when Rivers youths were known for vandalism, stealing and violence. We are now in a new era with a Governor who is a young person, who understands the yearnings and aspirations of the youths. So they need to cooperate with the government and protect what they have”.
The Commissioner thanked the people of Iriebe and Rumuokwurusi host to the Waste to Wealth plant for protecting the facility from vandals, assuring  that they would be the greatest beneficiary from the plant when it resumes production.
The Commissioner  assured that the visit would bring hope to the people of Iriebe and Rumuokwurusi and the entire youth of Rivers State, urging them to have faith and support the present government in the state.
