Caitlyn Fortner, a resident of Summerville, has been selected to participate in the prestigious 67th Distinguished Young Women National Finals scheduled to take place from June 27-29 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Preparation for Prestige Following her impressive win as the Distinguished Young Woman of South Carolina, Fortner has been diligently preparing for the upcoming National Finals. The competition will involve assessments in five crucial categories including scholastics, interview, fitness, talent, and self-expression. During her stay in Mobile for two weeks, Fortner will engage in team-building exercises, contribute to community service initiatives, connect with the Gulf Coast community through various events, and undergo extensive rehearsals in anticipation of the scholarship program spanning three nights. A Platform for Excellence Carole Hegwood, the executive director of Distinguished Young Women, expressed her enthusiasm in hosting the 50 exceptional state representatives in Mobile for the 67th edition of the National Finals. Hegwood highlighted the outstanding qualities possessed by these young women including their accomplishments, talents, and intelligence, pointing towards the promising futures that lie ahead for them. Promoting a Positive Impact If Fortner emerges victorious as the overall winner of the program, she will spend the following year representing Distinguished Young Women nationwide through a series of appearances aimed at promoting the organization's national outreach initiative 'Be Your Best Self.' This initiative is formulated to address critical issues affecting children today such as childhood obesity and high school dropout rates, while also encouraging youth to actively engage in community service. The outreach program is centered around five core values - Be Healthy, Be Involved, Be Studious, Be Ambitious, and Be Responsible. A Bright Future Ahead Fortner, a 2024 graduate from Ashley Ridge High School, is the daughter of Chrissy and Chris Fortner. Her participation in the National Finals not only showcases her dedication and talent but also positions her as a potential recipient of the impressive $155,000 in cash scholarships along with the prestigious title of Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2024.
