The top management of the Uganda Police Force has started vetting the names of officers due for promotion.

The officers to be promoted this year must not have been promoted in the last five years. A source in the position of authority says that the promotions will affect officers in the lowest rank up to the rank of Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP).

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Grace Akullo, who is the director of Interpol and International Relations, said on Sunday that the promotions will come.

Between 2017 and 2022, there were no promotions in police following a ban by the Inspectorate of Government. However, promotions resumed in 2023.

“Good things are coming. The government has better plans for you. Do your work with pleasure. Maintain your discipline. Promotions are coming,” said AIGP Akullo. AIGP Akullo made this revelation while presiding over the Police Thanksgiving Service as Chief Guest at St. Peter’s Church of Uganda in Naguru on Sunday.

Don’t tire, AIGP Akullo told officers. AIGP Akullo, who represented the Chief Guest, told the service that the IGP is in high spirits but engaged in other duties.

She, however, appealed to officers to be thankful for what they already have and that more will come their way.

Above all, AIGP Akullo tasked officers to observe “the laws of the land and the 10 commandments.”

AIGP Akullo appealed to officers to take good care of their families and send their children to school as opposed to marrying more women upon getting salary enhancements. The wives of police officers were urged to take good care of their husbands.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Irene Ameri, who is the Deputy Director of Logistics, appealed to the congregation to work on their character.

“Go out there and shine a light on communities. There are too many Christians to have an impact on communities,” said CP Ameri.

Cpl. Rev. Jackson Bwambale Tusiime delivered the summons with the scripture taken from the book of Luke 17:11–19. He appealed to the public not to fear the police. Instead, he appealed to the congregation to give information to the public.

“Befriend the police. If the community is transformed, the crime rate will reduce,” said Cpl. Rev. Bwambale.

He dedicated Acts 10:1 ([1] There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, [2] a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.) to his fellow officers.

The Police Thanksgiving Service is held annually. This year’s was convened under the theme “Shinning Stars.”
