As the Paris Olympics draw near, Bethesda's Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart is abuzz with excitement as three of its alumni prepare to represent the U.S. in swimming. Olympic Bound Graduates Katie Ledecky, Phoebe Bacon, and Erin Gemmell have clinched their spots on the American team after stellar performances at the U.S. Olympic swim trials in Indianapolis. The trio's achievements mark a proud moment for the private Catholic school, which is gearing up to celebrate their success with a 'red, white, and blue Olympic Pep Rally' on July 25—a day before the Games kick off in Paris. Celebrating Star Athletes Head of School Catherine Ronan Karrels and Head Varsity Swimming and Diving Coach Bob Walker were in attendance as Ledecky, Bacon, and Gemmell secured their places on the team. Ledecky, a four-time Olympian, shot to fame with her gold medal win at the 2012 London Games at just 15 years old. Meanwhile, Bacon, a rising swim star, expressed her excitement at the rare opportunity to compete alongside her fellow Stone Ridge alumnae. Bacon and Gemmell share a special bond that dates back to their early days at Little Flower School, where they were 'buddies,' before later making waves in the world of competitive swimming. Proud Community Moment Reflecting on the success of the three swimmers, Mary Gen Ledecky, Katie's mother, shared her pride in seeing them excel both in and out of the pool. With a total of 20 women named to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Women’s Swim Team, the Stone Ridge alumni account for an impressive 15% of the squad. Gemmell, set to make her Olympic debut, is thrilled to be realizing her dream alongside her former schoolmates. The trio's journey from young teammates to Olympic contenders is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and mutual support. Gearing up for Paris As the countdown to Paris begins, Stone Ridge is getting ready to host a special pep rally in honor of its star athletes. The school invites all community members and fans to join in the festivities and show their support for Ledecky, Bacon, and Gemmell. With their eyes set on Olympic glory, these three talented swimmers are poised to make waves at the upcoming Games.
