Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson floated Monday that former President Barack Obama is ‘disingenuous’ in his public support for President Joe Biden staying in the White House race.
81-year-old Biden’s performance at Thursday’s presidential debate frightened Democrats, as he bungled answers, sounded weak and confused.
Carlson, who’s been hosting an interview show on X, took to the platform overnight and said he got his information from an ‘unusually good source.’
‘Obama’s tweet supporting Joe Biden was disingenuous,’ Carlson wrote. ‘In private, Obama is telling people Biden can’t win, and he is therefore in favor of an open convention.’
‘Obama will not say whom he supports, nor as of yesterday afternoon had he met personally with Biden to deliver the message,’ Carlson went on.
Biden traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina on the heels of the debate and gave a much more vigorous performance, defending his decision to stay in the race.
‘Folks, I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to.’
‘But I know what I know – I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done,’ the president argued.
Biden then spent most of the weekend fundraising in New York and New Jersey.
The president returned to Camp David – where he had holed away for a week to prepare for the debate – and is expected to return to the White House late Monday.
Carlson said that ‘relations between the Obamas and the Bidens have never been warm.’
‘At times they’ve been hostile,’ the former Fox News host added. ‘But recently they’ve deteriorated further, mostly due to Jill Biden.’
‘In the hours and days after the debate, she kept her husband cloistered away from anyone who might convince him to drop out,’ Carlson claimed. ‘Jill Biden is the driving force behind her husband’s reelection campaign, just as she was in 2020, when other members of the family (including Biden’s sister Val) considered him too impaired to run.’
‘The next generation of potential Democratic candidates understands all this as an opportunity and they’re circling, particularly Gretchen Whitmer, who is promoting herself aggressively,’ Carlson added.
On Friday, Obama came out in support of Biden noting that ‘bad debate nights happen.’
The Democrat offered that the election was still a ‘choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.’
While The New York Times editorial board wrote an op-ed saying Biden should pull out, Obama did no such thing.
But there has been some reporting on the cracks between the two prominent Democratic families.
Axios reported Thursday, ahead of the debate, that Michelle Obama has privately expressed frustrations over how the Bidens treated Kathleen Buhle, her close friend and the ex-wife of Hunter Biden.
Three of the Bidens’ seven grandchildren are Kathleen’s, but they largely iced her out of the family after she divorced Hunter while he was a crack cocaine addict.
Former President Obama has appeared several times on the campaign trail with Biden – and at a White House state dinner with Kenya – but Michelle Obama has yet to do anything with the campaign.
