Kedar has consistently represented the Savner Assembly Constituency for the last five terms. During the MVA government, he was the minister for animal husbandry, dairy development. He was convicted in a 25-year-old case related to alleged irregularities in the Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank. Last year Kedar was convicted in the case and was handed a five year sentence. This had led to him being disqualified as an MLA and was debarred from standing for the elections. While he was granted bail, the single judge bench has refused to allow him to stand for elections.

Leaders close to Kedar said while this was a personal set back for him, his wife is mostly like to be fielded in his seat. Known for his organisational skills, Kedar has played an important role in winning the Ramtek seat for Congress. An aggressive leader, Kedar had toured the region and ensured the almost dismantled ground level organisation of the party was revitalised for the polls. The former minister was in Pune to over see the election campaign of Ravindra Dangekar who lost the elections.

Even during the BJP’s sweep of Vidharbha, Kedar managed to keep his seat for the Congress. Over the years, he has managed to win over the APMCs, the Nagpur Zila Parishad for Congress. The grand old party had managed to win 6 of the 8 Lok Sabha seats in Vidarbha. If this trend continues in the Assembly Polls, the party will have leads in a substantial number of seats in the region. While Kedar is yet to open his cards, leaders close to him say he might play the role of an important organiser in the region in the upcoming assembly elections.
