Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said he will not threaten traditional rulers in the state. The governor has urged for unity and cooperation in the pursuit of peace and progress. He made the disclosure when he appointed a new chairman for the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, King of Apara Kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. In the meeting with the traditional leaders, Governor Fubara reflected on a past incident where his predecessor, believed to be the immediate-past governor, Nyesom Wike, threatened a traditional leader during a visit to Ahoada-East in Ekpeye land. Fubara said he would use a different approach, choosing to appeal to the monarchs rather than issuing threats. “I remember when we went to Ahoada-East, Ekpeye land, for an event,” he recalled. “A former Governor openly threatened one of you, warning that if you try it, I will do this, I will do that.” Without mentioning Wike’s name, Fubara’s reference is evident, given the strained relationship between him and his estranged political mentor.
