The son of the former governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai on Thursday replied to a netizen who inquired if the ex-governor stole public funds.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Kaduna State House of Assembly had in May 2024 called for the prosecution of El-Rufai, after accusing him of diverting N423 billion and leaving the state in significant debt due to mismanagement.

A group known as the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance on Wednesday took the case ahead after lodging a petition at the office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), urging the commission to commence El-Rufai’s prosecution.

In June 2024, the same group led a protest to the Kaduna Government House where they made a similar demand for the arrest and prosecution of El-rufai and other members of the administration indicted by the assembly.

Victor Duniya, chairman of the group had addressed reporters shortly after submitting their petition to the ICPC, saying they submitted a similar petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja for the agency to expedite action on the prosecution of El-Rufai and others.

On Thursday, a netizen on the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter, named Onye Spare Parts asked the younger El-Rufai in Pidgin English, “Your papa thief abi e no thief?”

Responding, the ex-governor son said he could not say for certain that his father was innocent of the allegations.

He said, “I can’t say I know for sure o. That one na between him and Allah. But I personally do not believe the father I know that raised me and my siblings is a thief. However, to each their own to believe as they wish.”

He then asked the netizen, “You, your papa na thief? Or him too na between him & Jesus?”
