President Yoweri Museveni has created the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit to do oversight on Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) operations and fight corruption within the tax administration system.

The President has also appointed Mr. David Kalemera as a Senior Presidential Advisor and Head of the Unit.

The creation of the unit will help the Government close revenue leakages and boost tax collection.

This comes as URA led by the Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujoki has faced an uphill task of creating awareness about EFRIS system amongst the traders who even took a strike for a week demanding the reversal of the EFRIS system by President although to date it has never been effected in spite of the several engagements with him.

URA has pledged to bolster its tax administration efforts to achieve its revenue target of Shs31.98 trillion of the Shs72.1 trillion for the 2024/25 financial year National Budget.
