Convicted murderer Greg Lynn has been attacked in a Melbourne prison by a fellow inmate not even a week after he was found guilty of murdering Carol Clay.
Greg Lynn, who one week ago was found guilty of the murder of Victorian camper Carol Clay, has been attacked in a Melbourne prison.
Seven News reports the former Jetstar pilot, who is currently at Melbourne Assessment Prison, was attacked after having faeces thrown at him by a fellow inmate.
It is believed an inmate who knows Ms Clay’s family asked another inmate to attack Lynn.
The father-of-three reportedly was already not happy at the facility.
A jury found Lynn guilty of murdering Ms Clay, however, he was acquitted of the murder of second camper Russell Hill.
It followed days of deliberation in a five-week long trial at Victoria’s Supreme Court.
Lynn, 57, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Hill, 74, and Ms Clay, 73, while on a March 2020 camping trip in Victoria's remote High Country.
The couple was reported missing to police after they hadn’t been heard from by their families, and an extensive manhunt in the Wonnangatta Valley was sparked.
The campers were childhood sweethearts who were involved in a secret romance since 2006.
Lynn was arrested more than a year after their disappearance and charged over their deaths, with prosecutors alleging Lynn had killed the retirees with murderous intent.
Lynn claimed he was innocent throughout the five-week trial, maintaining the couple had been accidentally killed in separate struggles involving a kitchen knife and his shotgun over a drone dispute.
In a police interview and testimony, Lynn said Mr Hill had taken his shotgun and threatened to turn him into police after filming him on his drone hunting near their campsite. The convicted murderer then claimed in his attempt to reclaim his firearm, Ms Clay was fatally shot.
He claimed Mr Hill, enraged by her death, lunged at Lynn with the knife before falling on it mistakenly during their confrontation.
Prosecutor Daniel Porceddu said Lynn’s version of events was a “complete fiction” and put forward that he likely murdered Mr Hill after a confrontation over the elderly camper’s drone, before he shot Ms Clay who witnessed the killing.
Lynn will return to court on July 19, and faces life imprisonment.
