Ekong eyes transfer to Sweden from Serie A

Emmanuel Ekong, son of former Super Eagles star Prince Ikpe Ekong, could be back playing in Sweden in the coming season.

The 22-year-old striker has told his Serie A club Empoli he wants a transfer, according to Sportbladet

Empoli signed Ekong from Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna in the summer of 2018.

He made his debut in Serie A in September 2022. There were two appearances in total, before he was loaned to Perugia in January 2023.

There was another foray into Serie A last season, before Empoli loaned the young striker to NK Istra.

Ekong scored three goals and three assists in 21 league appearances for the Croatian club. Now he is back in Italy.

Talks are underway with some unnamed Swedish clubs, according to Sportbladet newspaper.

Ekong has a contract with the Italian club that runs until the summer of 2027.

He has made two international appearances for the Swedish U20 national team.

Ekong senior featured for several Swedish clubs like Djurgården IF and GAIS.
