Global South Anglicans begin direct dialogue with the Catholic Church after parting from Anglican communion

CV NEWS FEED // The Global South Anglicans are continuing to distance themselves from the Anglican leadership of Canterbury, as news breaks that the Conference has officially begun direct dialogues with the Catholic Church.

Since the Anglican Communion approved the blessings of same-sex unions during the 2022 Lambeth Conference, members of the denomination in Africa and across the global south have become increasingly divided from their western counterparts.

In April 2023, the Global Anglican future Conference (GAFCON) met in Rwanda to discuss the issue regarding biblical teachings on sexuality and the human person. The conference was attended by 1,302 delegates from across 52 countries, including 315 Anglican bishops.

In a June 26 post to his X account, Religious freedom activist and Anglican priest Calvin Robinson announced that a large majority of Anglican leaders at GAFCON are now in talks with the Vatican, through the Dicastery for the Doctrine of Faith.

He wrote:

Robinson is the editor of a popular Substack site, “Common Sense Crusade,” where he analyses internal debates within the Anglican church.

Attendees at the Gafcon conference signed the Kigali Commitment, a text which proposes a way forward in Scripture for faithful Anglicans, and calling on the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury  Justin Welby -who holds an honorary position in heading the Anglican communion- to repent from his promotion of “repeated departures from the authority of God’s Word,” which have “torn the fabric of the Communion.”
