A group, the Ibadan Young Professionals, IYP, has cautioned residents of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, not to allow some selfish politicians to destroy the legacies of the ancient city as the 2027 elections draw nearer.

The group urged the people of Ibadan to resist any attempt to sow discord and division among them.

The group issued the warning while responding to a statement by one Waliku Kayode, from Oyo State, who alleged that some parts of the city had been marginalized politically.

IYP, in the statement signed by its President, Engineer Taofeek Adelabu and Secretary, Mr. Saheed Adelubi, advised the people to reject any attempt to divide them along geographical or political lines.

The statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday said, “We are compelled to respond to this divisive and fallacious claim, which seeks to destroy the peaceful fabric of our community. Ibadan, the ancient city and capital of Oyo state, has a rich history and cultural heritage that transcends geographical boundaries.

“Our city and less city are united in their shared values, traditions, and aspirations. We reject any attempt to sow discord and division among our people, and instead, we choose to celebrate our diversity and promote inclusivity.

“We warn politicians not to allow their selfish ambition to destroy Ibadan. We also sound a note of warning to hatchet writers masquerading under fictitious names to steer clear of Ibadan in their dirty game. Such persons will be fished out and dealt with according to the law if such actions persist.

“We must reject any attempt to divide us along geographical or political lines. We must resist the temptation to succumb to divisive rhetoric and instead embrace our diversity as a strength. We must continue to work together to build a united and prosperous Ibadan, where every citizen has a sense of belonging and opportunity to thrive.

“In conclusion, we reiterate that Ibadan is one and will always be one. We will not allow divisive elements to destroy our peaceful fabric.

“We would like to remind the public that our sitting Governor, Seyi Makinde, is from Ajia in Ona Ara Local Government area of Oyo state, which is part of Ibadan less city and a significant hub in Oyo state, while Alhaji Lam Adesina, born on Friday, January 20, 1939 is Ikija in Oluyole local government area of Oyo State.

“Another former Governor of Oyo state, Sen. Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja is from Laleye village of Akinyele local government area of Oyo state, same as Late Gov. Kolapo Olawuyi Isola, who is also from Akinyele local government area of Oyo state. This demonstrates that every eligible son and daughter of Ibadanland has a homestead in both the city and less city, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity.”
