The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the construction of 40 houses for the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, and High City Court.

He also mentioned that President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction of houses for judges and justices as retirement benefits.

Wike claims this move was to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently. The Minister also promised that his outfit will begin construction in August 2024.

He said:

“We should have a judiciary where they have their own houses so they will be comfortable and carry out their duties.

What Mr President has done, I want to say to all of us is that we should provide accommodation, 10 for the Court of Appeal, 10 for the Federal High Court and 20 for the High City Court.

I believe by August we will lay the foundation. He also said our judges, when they retire, they have no other job to do unlike medical doctors, engineers, who, when they retire, can go back to their practice. But in this case, this is not available for the justices and the judges.

Mr President has approved that the house of court must have their retirement homes. He has approved the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, FCT, president of the Industrial High Court, the President of the Court of Appeal must have their retirement homes.

I want to assure you, by the grace of God, the foundation of these homes will be laid this August and before September, you will all have your keys to your houses,” Wike said.
