Lagos State has received an additional 13 Band A feeders following approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

NERC on Wednesday approved the upgrade of 13 more feeders from Band B to Band A for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKDC), Lagos which confirmed the development in a statement on its X handle.

“Premised on our demonstrated ability to consistently provide a minimum of 20 hours of daily availability during a performance evaluation period monitored by the regulator, we are pleased to announce that we have obtained approval to add 13 Band A feeders to our network,” IKDC said.

It added that the newly-upgraded Band A feeders are OgbalNJ-T3-Agege, AlimoshoINJ-T8-Okunola, OworolNJ-T3-Anthony, AdeniyiJonesINJ-T1-Anifowoshe, IsheriINJ-T1-Bankole and Adeniyi JonesINJ-T1-Ajao.

This latest approval by NERC brings to 141 the total number of feeders on Ikeja Electric from the previous 128.

The new additional 13 feeders which were upgraded from Band B to Band A were approved following NERC’s thorough review of IE’s ability to supply at least 20 hours of electricity daily.

Meanwhile, NERC recently threatened to sanction distribution companies (DisCos) who fail to complete the migration of Token Identifier of Standard Transfer Specification Meters of their customers before July 31, 2024.

The commission made this known at its second Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) stakeholders meeting 2024 at the commission’s headquarters.

Stakeholders discussed the progress report on the STS migration of electricity meters and its approaching deadline.

“Sanctions would be meted out to DisCos that fail to complete STS meter migration of their customers after the Commission’s July 31 deadline,” the commission warned in a statement.

The Guardian gathered that it is mandatory for all metered customers to be upgraded as they will not be able to recharge their meters once the deadline for the upgrade elapses.

Also, customers whose meters are not eligible for migration to STS will need to have their meters replaced to avoid being ruled out of the system.
