Music fans heading to any of this year’s Sounds of the City gigs at Castlefield Bowl this month are being offered a chance to bag a free drink in the city centre before the show.

The summer festival kicked off in spectacular style on Wednesday night (July 3) with a performance from Canadian pop-rock princess Avril Lavigne and continues this evening with American band The National.

Fatboy Slim, Jungle, Tom Grennan, the Manic Street Preachers and Suede, and Loyle Carner will also be taking to the stage throughout the next two weeks. If you're interested, you can find drinks prices for the festival's bar areas here.

To coincide with the summer events, food hall Society, situated opposite the Bridgewater Hall, has announced it will be handing out 100 free Aperol Spritz each night the festival takes place - meaning there will be a total of nine opportunities to grab a freebie.

Gig-goers will need to show their ticket to a member of bar staff before the show takes place but once the 100 free drinks have already been handed out, that’s it. The offer will be in place until July 13 when Haçienda Classical ends the run of Castlefield Bowl shows with a performance featuring a number of special guests.

The series of Sounds of the City shows will include Fatboy Slim on July 5, The Saw Doctors on July 6, Tom Grennan on July 7, Loyle Carner on July 10, Jungle on July 11 and Manic Street Preachers and Suede on July 12.

Society’s offer of a free drink to a lucky 100 on each night of the shows also gives people a chance to discover its outdoor terrace area which has been further revamped for the summer.
