Nissan X-Trail vs Toyota Fortuner Comparison

In this post, we shall compare the specs and design of the new India-bound Nissan X-Trail and Toyota Fortuner. Nissan recently announced the new X-Trail for the Indian market. Remember, the latest X-Trail was revealed back in 2022. It is already on sale in many international markets across the world. However, it has eluded India until now. Finally, the official announcement by the Japanese carmaker has created excitement in our market. It will be a CBU model which means that the prices would be high. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner is a 7-seat off-roading SUV which is extremely successful. Let us compare the two in terms of specifications and design.

Nissan X-Trail vs Toyota Fortuner Specs Comparison

The Nissan X-Trail is available in the international market with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This is good for a cool 201 hp and 305 Nm of peak power and torque. The transmission duties will be carried out by a CVT automatic gearbox. This will ensure smooth operation. Apart from that, the international model gets the option of either a 2WD or a 4WD. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the same alternative is available for our market as well. Contrary to popular belief, the SUV won’t come with the hybrid engine at the launch.

On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner is available with two engine options – a 2.7-litre petrol or a 2.8-litre turbo diesel. The former generates a rather modest 164 hp and 245 Nm, while the latter is good for 201 hp and 420 Nm (500 Nm with automatic transmission) of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between either a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Note that only the diesel version gets a sophisticated 4×4 drivetrain.

Design Comparison

In terms of appearance, the new Nissan X-Trail boasts the latest design philosophy from the Japanese car marque. The front fascia is dominated by the V-Motion grille flanked by LED headlamps on either side. It gets a split-LED headlamp setup with LED DRLs on the bonnet and the main headlight cluster on the bumper. The bumper is sporty and there is a faux skid plate underneath it to elevate its road presence. The use of chrome is apparent. On the sides, we get to witness elegant alloy wheels, roof rails and a butch side profile. At the rear, we get to witness a roof-mounted spoiler, a rugged skid plate and a split-LED taillamp unit.

Apart from that, there are fog lamps, a sporty bumper with a sturdy skid plate, an upright bonnet, colossal alloy wheels, prominent wheel arches, chrome belt around window frames, side steps for easier ingress and egress characteristics, a roof-mounted rear spoiler, slim LED taillamps, rugged bumper and a solid skid plate at the rear. Both these SUVs are quite charming in their own right. We shall delve deeper into the details once the X-Trail launch nears.
