“This guy has got something” – Ian Wright praises 22-year-old Chelsea star

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Nicolas Jackson has “got something” and claims under the right manager he would flourish.

Jackson arrived at Chelsea last summer from Villareal, and has led the Chelsea attack for much of his debut campaign, something he wouldn’t have expected or Chelsea had planned.

The 22-year-old has scored 13 goals in all competitions, with 10 coming in the Premier League, and whilst his play in the box needs improving, outside the box he has shown his ability by stretching teams with his pace and creating chances through good hold up and link up play.

The Senegal international has shown his versatility by playing on the left wing at times this season, something we could potentially see more of next season.

Despite a promising debut campaign, Jackson has been criticised for a lot of missed chances, especially in the FA Cup semi final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley.

However Wright believes there’s a player in Jackson and under the right manager it could be unlocked.

“I’m seeing Nicolas Jackson by the way”, he said on his podcast Wrighty’s House.

“I watched him fully again against Aston Villa and I have watched him in the last three or four games and the chances that he has missed always take precedent when people are talking about him, but I am seeing that guy’s pace, his link, his touch.

“Something is happening, if he gets that goalscoring right there is something in there, I’m telling you. He did some brilliant stuff.

“I have seen flashes that under the right manager, and if he has the energy and the mind and personality for it, this guy has got something. I am telling you.”

Jackson has definitely shown enough in his first season to suggest he can become an important player and make an impact at Chelsea, all the attributes are there, he just needs to improve his finishing.
