A statement released by the spokesperson for the governorship candidate, Sam Ogunmusi, announced the formation of a Campaign Council with Dr. Eddy Olafeso appointed as Chairman. Other appointments included Clement Faboyede as Director General (DG), Barr. John Ola Mafo as Director General (Special Duties), and Mr. Deji Aseniserare as Secretary, with immediate effect.

However, swiftly responding to the announcement, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kennedy Peretei, disowned the campaign council. Peretei declared the announcement by Ogunmusi as not only embarrassing but also a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as Amended), specifically citing Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b)(c) which do not permit such announcements from individuals not authorized by the party.

Peretei emphasized the party’s commitment to organizational rules and the rule of law, stating that appointments for the Local Campaign Council would be made public at the appropriate time as per the party’s constitutional provisions.

Furthermore, the PDP spokesperson clarified that claims of a new chairman replacing Alhaji Fatai Adams were false and baseless, noting that the party’s constitution clearly outlines procedures for replacing officers due to death or removal under Article 47(6).

He condemned what he termed as a fake congratulatory message aimed at creating discord within the party and undermining support for Hon. Agboola Ajayi’s candidacy in the upcoming election.

Peretei concluded by reminding all stakeholders that the tenure of the current State Executive Committee of the party expires on August 3, 2024, urging those interested in assuming party positions to abide by the constitutional timelines.

The developments underscore growing tensions within the Ondo State PDP as factions navigate leadership disputes and campaign strategy ahead of a crucial electoral contest.
