He also noted that the person who had given him the scoop was more devastated, as he was the little boy's father.
"My brother heard there was a child who had fallen in the water tank while at a nearby market near the school and called me. Bro, I hear there is a child who has fallen in the water tank here in Rwanyange. Come and get the news."
After two minutes, he called me again. "Bro, I see Tiffa's uniform and his glasses under a tank." He breathed hard and hung up the call," Murithi said.
Murithi, who works at Citizen TV, said he was in disbelief following the news. He had a great bond with Tiffany, a Grade 7 pupil at Rwanyange Primary School in Meru County.
The boy had slipped, fell and drowned in the school water tank while attempting to fetch water for his classmates.
He said the water was only used to clean the classes and not for any other purpose of consumption.
Murithi claimed that when Tiffany fell into the tank, other pupils called for help, but none came to their rescue.
In another story, two men died while attempting to rescue a 13-year-old boy who drowned.
Sotik sub-county police commander Muturi Mbogo said the incident happened after the teenager dropped a can in a well.
Mbogo said a neighbour, aged 45 and a boda boda rider drowned as well while trying to rescue the boy.
The three bodies were retrieved and moved to the Kaplong Mission Hospital mortuary.
