The American tennis sensation is on a remarkable run this season and her campaign in Wimbledon is no exception. The 30-year-old defeated her Brazilian counterpart Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, during their third-round clash at the grass-court grand slam. However, besides the exceptional gameplay that she demonstrated on Saturday, what further caught the attention of the tennis community was the iconic advice she gave to all women.

Speaking in the post-match interview, the American star advised women players to keep expressing themselves. “I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’m someone who’s not afraid to be myself. I think as women we should really embrace that and support each other and be able to use that passion to fire us up.” Collins’ statement is perceived as an advice that she seems to have given to her opponent who was seen frustrated after the defeat.

Soon after the defeat, Maia was shaking hands with Collins on the court. However, what appeared to be a calm demeanor, soon turned into a heated moment as the Brazilian was spotted smashing her racquet against her kit bag. Her action can not be deemed unreasonable either as for a player who was leading 4-0 in the first set, going down to 6-4 can definitely be frustrating. Continuing further, Collins justified being emotional and frustrated.

Danielle Collins has reached the round-of-16 stage at the grass-court Grand Slam for the first time in her career. And what can be better than achieving the feat when she is heading to her retirement? But besides eyeing her first Grand Slam title, the American has another milestone that she wants to achieve on the green courts. 

Speaking in the post-match interaction, Collins revealed her desire to play a singles match on the Centre Court of the All-England Club. “It’s a goal of mine to be able to play on Centre Court in a singles match at some point.” former World No.7 said. “I have yet to do that in my career. So I am just trying to ride this thing out until I can play on Centre Court.” While Collins has played a doubles match with Desirae Krawczyk on the Centre Court in the 2022 Wimbledon semi-final, she is yet to play a singles match here. 

As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see if the tennis star can continue her momentum and accomplish her desire to play on the Centre court. For now, Collins is scheduled to face the Czech player, Barbora Krejčíková on Monday.
