Huge 200 MWh battery to power 40,000 homes in China

In June 2024, Kehua completed the installation of the world's first large-scale energy storage power plant based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with a capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh in Zhejiang Province (PRC). This is discussed on the company's website.

The project is the largest energy storage power plant in Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, which uses Kehua's energy storage solutions. The installation consists of 25 sets of 5-megawatt units.

The battery can simultaneously store 200,000 kWh of electricity with an annual discharge of more than 60 million kWh, saving about 23,000 tons of coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 72,000 tons. The energy storage facility will be used to store excess energy, supply energy to alleviate problems, and also to modernize the local energy infrastructure.

The capacity of 200 MWh is enough to provide electricity to 40,000 homes. The battery will be able to work for 20 years, withstanding 6000 charge-discharge cycles at temperatures from -20 to +60°C.

Engineers managed to combine semi-solid batteries with an energy storage system by introducing 4 high-performance energy storage converters with a capacity of 1 ,25 MW, which were connected in parallel to one transformer with a capacity of 5000 kVA. This made it possible to obtain an AC output voltage of 35 kV with high transmission efficiency and stability. It is worth noting that the charging and discharging of batteries is automatically adjusted by the intelligent control system, which significantly increases the overall safety and stability of the system, and also provides the customer with a more reliable and efficient solution for energy storage.
