AC Milan are pushing to beat city rivals Inter Milan to the signing of Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno this summer.

This according to Italian news outlet La Repubblica. The outlet anticipate that the Rossoneri will hold a meeting with Torino soon, and that the price tag for Buongiorno would be around €35 million.

Buongiorno has been one of the outstanding defenders in Serie A so far this season.

The 24-year-old Italian international has therefore marked himself out as a transfer target for a number of clubs.

Reportedly, top teams in both Serie A and the Premier League are keen on Buongiorno.

Inter are one of these. La Repubblica report that the Nerazzurri see the Torino defender as the ideal long-term successor to Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij in the centre of their defense.

But Inter’s city rivals Milan are aware of the competition to sign Buongiorno. And they are prepared to move fast to try and beat the competition, La Repubblica report.

La Repubblica report that Milan will hold talks with Torino soon.

These would be to lay the groundwork for a summer transfer of Buongiorno.

La Repubblica expect that Milan could even aim to sign Buongiorno before the Euros this summer.

The Torino defender is almost certain to be part of Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad at the Euros. Therefore, he could impress on the international stage.

Naturally, this could cause Buongiorno’s price tag to rise. And attract the interest of other big clubs.

Therefore, Milan’s intention is to try and agree a deal very soon.

However, La Repubblica note, the Rossoneri’s most significant competition to sign Buongiorno could come from their city rivals.

It is the Nerazzurri, above all, who Milan may be trying to preempt with a move for the 24-year-old.
