NurtureHouse Consulting, an educational capacity development outfit, and the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have teamed up to improve capacity in the state’s education sector.
The partnership, which is out to ensure that newly inducted 1,000 educators in the state are fully equipped to take on the task ahead of them, is also part of efforts at ensuring outstanding learner-performance in the education sector across the state.
Njideka Ayopeju, NurtureHouse Consulting’s CEO, told journalists in Lagos recently that the partnership, which has been running since 2020, has ensured that new education officers acclimatize to their roles in general as well as in policies, culture and expectations of the Lagos State TESCOM.
She remarked that the training process has succeeded in equipping the new teachers with the latest technologies and classroom management techniques in line with global best practices.
“We have facilitated them with connections and built learning communities with their fellow education officers, administrative staff and key stakeholders. In addition, we also introduced them to current educational resources and support systems, including technology.
“We are passionate about student-centric focus and emphasise the importance of student welfare and effective teaching strategies to enhance continuous improvement in student learning outcomes.”
Ayopeju maintained that they were confident that the carefully crafted induction programme, featuring cutting-edge topics like AI, will empower the new cohort for a thriving career with the TESCOM.
NurtureHouse, she emphasized, was proud to partner with TESCOM to support the future educators on their transformative journey of shaping students’ future and enriching communities.
“Our deepest gratitude goes to TESCOM’s leadership and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s visionary investment in our educators. So far, from inception, we have trained 5,000 educators directly and this have also had a positive influence on their senior colleagues,” she said.
Iyabo-Seriki-Bello, TESCOM Permanent Secretary, indicated that the Lagos State government was leaving no stone unturned in galvanizing the development of education against the backdrop of the governor’s support for teachers, ensuring that high level quality education is attained in the state.
To achieve this task, she pointed out that the training content will be a combination of knowledge-sharing sessions, case studies, application of blended skills, competencies and experience sharing.
Victoria Peregrino, chairman, TESCOM, explained that the teaching commission was an evolving one, as such, teachers should develop the penchant for continuous learning to keep pace with the demands of the school system and master the daily and increasing requirements of the school and students’ development.
“This event, which is fast becoming a tradition, sequel to the inauguration of the Commission in 2019, is in line with the goals of the Governor Sanwo-Olu administration, wherein, quality education becomes the focal point that ensures learners receive life transforming instructions for competence, confidence and efficiency.
“To whom much is given, much more is expected. The only way to give back to the state that found you worthy among your peers is to work assiduously in achieving the state’s functional and productive education goals, leveraging technology,” Peregrino advised.
