Road construction to close segment of M-53 for six weeks
Drivers who travel on the Van Dyke Freeway (M-53) through Bruce Township in northern Macomb County this week will need to find another route as another construction project gets underway.
Starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, northbound M-53 will be closed for ongoing repairs between 33 Mile and 35 Mile roads for approximately six weeks.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the roadwork is part of a $5.3 million investment to repair the freeway between 27 Mile and 34 Mile roads. It includes asphalt and concrete pavement repairs on the lanes and shoulders, concrete pavement repairs to the ramps between M-53 and Van Dyke Avenue and sidewalk and curb ramp installations at M-53 and 32 Mile Road.
During the construction, 34 Mile Road will also be closed at M-53, MDOT officials said.
MDOT says the following detours will be in place:
State officials said that based on economic modeling, the projected is expected to support 64 jobs.
