Perth Mint's June gold sales dip, silver hits 5-year low

July 5 (Reuters) - Perth Mint's gold product sales declined for the second month in a row in June, while silver sales dropped to their lowest level since June 2019, the refiner said on Friday. BY THE NUMBERS Sales of gold coins and minted bars in June dropped more than 3% on a monthly basis to 22,520 ounces. They were down by 69% compared to last year. Silver product sales plunged 38.3% month-on-month to 491,946 ounces and marked a 63% decline from last year. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Perth Mint, owned by the government of Western Australia, is the world's largest producer of newly mined gold. It is also the biggest refiner by volume in Australasia, according to the company's website. Its intake each year equates to almost 75% of newly mined gold in Australia, one of the world's biggest gold producers. CONTEXT Spot gold prices snapped a four-month upward trend in June, slipping below the key $2,300 level to $2,286.50, while silver prices declined by 4.1%.
