That his father Angel had scored in the same stadium on November 15, 1991 in the match of his Osasuna against Stuttgart, valid for the second round of the UEFA Cup. Not only that, Merino celebrated with a lap around the corner like his father in 1991. «I don’t even realize it yet, it was a unique moment, a goal in the 119th minute. But behind this there is collective work and individual of our entire group. A great joy for me and my teammates, a joy for the work we have done both tonight and in the previous matches in this competition. The goal of my life? For the moment I think so because of its importance. At first I didn’t believe it, I hit the ball with my head and I saw it go in. There was an incredible silence, I didn’t know what was happening. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that I had scored”, said Merino. Today his father Angel is 57 years old and he tied his career mainly to Osasuna: first as a footballer (midfielder) and then as a coach, even if only of the youth teams and the B team.
