Summary

  • Krysten Ritter is open to reprising her role as Jessica Jones in the MCU.
  • Marvel Studios considers all Netflix shows as MCU canon, including Jessica Jones .
  • Ritter now leads Orphan Black: The New Echoes , a sci-fi thriller series set in the same universe as the original Orphan Black.

Krysten Ritter is ready to bring Marvel antihero Jessica Jones to the MCU. While there's no official news of a Jessica Jones revival, Ritter is all in to reprise the role. The actress portrayed the titular character in Netflix's Jessica Jones for three seasons from 2015 to 2019, and now that Netflix's Daredevil actors are making their way to Marvel's Cinematic Universe, some fans are wondering whether Jessica Jones will follow suit. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, while discussing new series Orphan Black: The New Echoes, Ritter shared:

"One hundred percent [I would return as Jessica Jones]. I am ready, and I would, of course, be there in a heartbeat. She's a character who I absolutely love, and she was a part of my life for so long. I played that character for five years, and she's a character who's very important to me and many women and men. So if the opportunity calls, I may or may not have an extra jacket already. (Laughs.)"

According to the publication, Marvel Studios streaming head Brad Winderbaum has confirmed "that all of the former Netflix shows are now considered MCU canon, including Jessica Jones." And there's hope. The upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, serves as a continuation to the original Netflix series (which concluded in 2018) and brings back over half the original cast; it also fully integrates Daredevil into the MCU.

Krysten Ritter Marvels at Fan Reactions to 'Thoughtless Little' Jessica Jones Social Media Post

Krysten Ritter shared her thoughts on how her social media posts instigated so many online debates about her possible Jessica Jones return.

The Ritter-led Jessica Jones garnered critical praise - namely for its first season - while growing a loyal fan base. Jessica Jones centered around Jessica, a former superhero (with an aversion to using her superhuman strength and durability) turned jaded private investigator in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. The character-driven show offered a grittier, more mature take on the superhero genre. Jones also portrayed the character in another Netflix series, Marvel's The Defenders, in 2017.

From Breaking Bad's Jane to Jessica Jones to... Clone?

Ritter now leads Orphan Black: The New Echoes, a sci-fi thriller series set in the same universe as the original Orphan Black, but decades later. The series, which premiered on June 23, 2024, on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America, airs on Sundays.

Before Jessica Jones, Ritter was best known for her portrayal of Jane Margolis in AMC's Breaking Bad from 2009 to 2010, but she began her career with minor roles in films like Mona Lisa Smile and 27 Dresses and TV shows, including Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. Post-Breaking Bad, Ritter impressed with her comedic prowess, starring in the beloved but short-lived Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 for two seasons (which was canceled by ABC despite positive reviews).

Ritter shared how more minor roles prepared her for her starring projects, telling THR:

"Very early on, I observed some big actresses on set. I watched Julia Roberts on Mona Lisa Smile and Cameron Diaz on What Happens in Vegas . I got to be a sponge and watch how some big wonderful actresses work and how they come to set. So that was a beautiful learning experience for me. My career started as little tiny parts that got a little bit bigger, and then it was a very gradual progression. So I got to pick up little things as I went along, and when it was time for me to have my own show, I was f---ing ready."

Jessica Jones is available to stream on Disney+.
